What We Are

Comprehensive Online Regional Golf Coverage at GolfTheMidAtlantic.com

Manassas, VA -- Following two years of work on TravelGolf.com’s regional online publication, OldDominionGolf.com, Jeff Rendall announces the launching of his new online periodical, GolfTheMidAtlantic.com.

"I felt the coverage on GolfTheMidAtlantic.com should be expanded to incorporate not only a broader cross-section of content, but also include more coverage. Whereas previously we’d only look at public access courses and resorts, now we cover private clubs, golf course communities and real estate, travel features, personalities specials, as well as offer more comprehensive golf news and commentary, and finally, adding a pictorials section. Golfers want to see the places they visit, so we’re increasing the size of the pictures and including captions in all the reviews, and finally, we’ve created a section solely for photographic art," Rendall said.

The Mid-Atlantic region has always had a quality golf product, but it’s been only recently that the word’s started getting out. Looking at Golf Magazine’s list of Gold Medal Resorts (there are 18 in the United States), the region claims three, and could easily add more in the near future (note: Myrtle Beach and Hilton Head have none).

"There’s a real diversity of golf courses in this part of the country," Rendall said. "We’ve got incredible mountain courses, seaside links-style courses, parkland courses, affordable courses, high-end layouts, you name it. There’s no need to drive farther south when you can play here at home and also take advantage of this region’s excellent touring possibilities. We’ve got all the "name" designers here, such as Tom Fazio, Pete Dye, Rees Jones, Robert Trent Jones, Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, Arthur Hills, Tom Doak … too many to mention!"

The goals of GolfTheMidAtlantic.com are simple: to provide entertaining, magazine quality text with large pictures and captions, along with the logistical information people need to find the courses they want to play, and the activities they want to do. In a nutshell, all the things golfers want to see and read about, but to provide it online, where readers can access the publication at anytime.

"The Internet is a different medium than print, and we recognize that," Rendall adds. "But there’s little doubt the world of communications is changing, and people are not only looking for more and better information, they want to be able to find it quickly. We’ll provide that for them – the logistical facts, but also, hopefully entertain them along the way."

Rendall serves as Editor of the new publication, with wife Shari serving as Assistant Editor and in various other capacities, including marketing, data collection and adding a non-golfer’s perspective to travel features. Samantha Drennan serves as Webmaster, which includes design and technical maintenance of the site. Several different photographers will contribute their talents to the publication, including Jeff Janas, Aaron Frey and Joe McHatton.

"We have a motto: ‘Not just different, but better.’ We’ve worked extremely hard in covering the region in the last two years, and that work will continue," Rendall said. "We really want it to be a participatory publication, and we welcome comments and questions."

Jeff Janas, Photographer

Cleveland SUCKS! (as does Drew Carey, that river that caught fire, and basically that whole part of Ohio but most especially the Browns. Really. I wouldn't kid you about this.)Jeff Janas is a native of Cleveland, Ohio, who moved to the Washington D.C. area in 1996 to work on Capitol Hill. Prior to this move, Jeff worked from 1991 until 1995 for the Governor of the state of Ohio. Although a Washington area resident for several years, Jeff remains an avid fan of Cleveland sports teams.

Having earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Communications from Ohio University, Jeff originally aspired to work in television and film production to satisfy his creative urges. However, fate took a hand and the political arena won out over his earlier ambitions. Freelancing for GolfTheMidAtlantic.com and others not only gives him a creative photographic outlet, but also allows him to enjoy one of his passions … golf. Jeff’s love for golf was derived from his father’s similar passion and from a having scored a hole-in-one in 1988 as a college student. Pursuit of a follow-up to that feat has been as of yet unsuccessful.

Jeff has freelanced for Jeff Rendall for over 2 years, having photographed a multitude of both public and private courses in and around the Mid-Atlantic region, as well as other prominent golf destinations on the eastern seaboard, such as Hilton Head South Carolina. In 2002, Jeff covered the Kemper Open in the Washington, D.C. area for GolfTheMidAtlantic.com for the first time as a credentialed photographer instead of a spectator.

Besides photography, politics and golf, Jeff’s other interests include aviation, skiing, travel, spending time with family and friends, the music of Jimmy Buffett and all things tropical.

Kevin J. Gaydosh, Photographer

Kevin Gaydosh works in the public relations industry for a Virginia-based agency, and is a freelance writer and photographer in his spare time.

His expertise includes special project development, cause-related marketing, sports sponsorship and event marketing. Gaydosh has also written and conducted media relations for a PGA Tour pro, a NASCAR team sponsor and NASCAR team owner, thoroughbred horse racing, professional surfing, powerboat racing, various business and industrial sponsorships, and a national cable sports program.

In both the private and public sectors, Gaydosh has represented several municipal and state tourism accounts as well as economic development initiatives involving sports, arts, museum and performance facilities.

Gaydosh received his Bachelor of Science degree in Communications, with honors, in 1985 from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania. He is an award-winning and accredited member of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA).

Samantha Drennan, Webmaster

Here we go Steelers, here we go! Yoi!Samantha Drennan originally hails from Pittsburgh, PA.   She ended up staying in the Old Dominion for good after attending the College of William and Mary, where she received a B.A. in business administration.  After a brief (and painful) stint in retail management, Samantha went to work for the lobbying firm of MultiState Associates in Old Town Alexandria, where she is currently the all-around "company computer guy."

MultiState was where she met Jeff Rendall, who later asked her to help out with GolfTheMidAtlantic.com.  Although not a fan of things golf, she agreed.  She has hobbies, and likes things.
